The S-R Inventory of Assertiveness was designed to assess assertive behavior in light of three factors (situations, modes of response, and subjects). It was written by the author and administered to a college student sample. Results indicated that males scored higher than did females. However, females tended to score higher on positive assertion situations, with males scoring higher on negative assertion situations. Test-retest reliabilities were high for mode of response and total scores. Concurrent validity was assessed by correlating the total scores with the College Self-Expression Scale.
