Samples of red shiners Notropis lutrensis (Baird and Girard), sand shiners Notropis stramineus (Cope), stonerollers Campostoma anomalum (Rafinesque) , and plains killifish Fundulus kansae Garman from the Saline and Smoky Hill rivers of Ellis County , Kansas , were analyzed for age and growth information . Length-frequency histograms, which give an indication of growth rates, were similar for fish of the same species, but red shiners lived to a greater age in the Saline River. Red shiners and sand shiners had significantly different length-weight regression slopes between rivers. Fish from the Saline River had slightly higher coefficients of condition.
