The Evolution of the American Life Insurance Industry

Presented in this thesis is the historical development of the evolution of the life insurance industry. The study covers the history of insurance leading to the development of the life insurance industry. Important developments pertaining to the life insurance industry in America were cited. The organization and marketing structure of life insurance companies was treated. The social and economic status which life insurance companies play in our American economy received heavy treatment. It was found that most authorities in the industry feel the surge of growth experienced in the past years will continue. The impact of the recent growth has not been fully reflected in benefit payments. Life insurance companies will continue to be the largest source of funds available to business and will continue to be a major force in the effort to stabilize our economy
