This is a study of the effect of CS duration on response rate. The CS durations used were 40, 55, 70, and 85 seconds. The order of CS presentations was varied. Four male CFN strain rats bar pressed for two 60-minute sessions per day on a VI-2 minute schedule for food. Each rat received six presentations of the CS-US (sugar solution) pairings per session. Each rat received six sessions at each CS duration and two sessions with the US terminated. There are no systematic enhancement or suppression effect during the CS period. This study indicates that order of CS presentations does have an effect on response enhancement and suppression and that enhancement and suppression are difficult to obtain
