A History of the Violin Étude to About 1800 Volume II

The purpose of this study is to investigate and ascertain the history and development of the étude as a specific form of didactic literature for the violin. All influential factors, both non-musical and musical, are considered; in a study of this type, however, more space is devoted to the musical than to the non-musical elements. This being the case, an investigation of instructional materials for the violin comprises the major portion of this writing.
