The general problem of this experiment was to investigate the influence of hints on the formation and retention of concepts . The specific problems were the following: 1. How do specific and non- specific hints influence the amount of effort required to learn and relearn concepts? 2. What is the relation of specific and non-specific hints to the percentage of consistent concepts learned and retained? J. Is the difference in rate of l earning inconsistent and consistent concepts significantly greater in the specific group than the non-specific group? 4. What are the individual differences in the procedure for forming new concepts
