The Charleston Siege Journal consists of a microfiched copy of an anonymous diary of a member of the Corps of British Engineers, Capt. James Moncrief (1741-1793) commanding, in the British Army during the March-May siege for Charleston, SC during the American Revolutionary War. The British siege of Charleston marked the beginning of the major British efforts to focus on the southern theatre to put down the rebellion. The diary was found among the papers of Lt. John A. Wilson (1789-1833) a prominent American Surveyor and engineer. His father, James Wilson (d. 1798), served in the Royal Engineers under Capt. Moncrief and is the possible author of the diary.https://digitalcommons.winthrop.edu/manuscriptcollection_findingaids/1516/thumbnail.jp
