In 1929, Winthrop\u27s May Day Tradition began. From 1929 to 1971, the May Day tradition was planned by the senior class and held on the first Saturday of May prior to Graduation. Festivities included music, dancing and May Court pageant, with four attendants elected by each class. Hundreds of spectators, including Winthrop students, parents, alumni, and community members, gathered annually to enjoy the activities and to watch the crowning of the May Queen.
