On January 13, 1944, the S. S. David B. Johnson was launched. The ship was named after Winthrop\u27s founder and first president Dr. David Bancroft Johnson (1956-1928). It\u27s unique MC Hull No. was 1511. The S. S. David B. Johnson was a Liberty ship used as a cargo ship during World War II along with thousands of other Liberty ships to replace ones lost to German submarines. the S. S. David B.
