The Appalachian Women: A Patchwork Quilt Collection consists of a VHS film by independent film maker and 1965 Winthrop graduate Gretchen Robinson which interviews Appalachian women chronicling their achievements and challenging their stereotypes. She traces women in Appalachia from the Cherokee women who had the right to speak at council meetings to the strong independent Ulster-Scot settlers who brought their education with them, to 19th Century farm women, to textile workers and to 1970\u27s & 1980\u27 s activists. Included is information on or interviews with Civil War farm women Emily Lyles Harris, jury service advocate Sara Liverance, and South Carolina House members Carolyn Frederick and Martha Fitzgerald.https://digitalcommons.winthr...
