Reactive laser vaporization conditions have been employed to generate various isotopic combinations of the new radical species, BNH, for neon matrix electron-€spin-€resonance (ESR) study. The BNH radical was found to have a linear geometry with an X-€‰ 2Σ electronic ground state, in agreement with a b i n i t i o theoretical calculations, which were conducted as part of this experimental investigation. ESR results for the nuclear hyperfineinteractions (Atensor) indicate that the electronic structure of BNH is quite similar to that of the isoelectronic BO radical.
