Dendritic cells (DCs) are important regulators of the adaptive immune response. Integral to their antigen-presenting capability is their ability to travel from sites of antigen capture in peripheral tissues to the T cell rich zones of the lymph node. Along the way, they encounter many different environments and are presented with a variety of chemical and biophysical cues. However, the response of DC migration to these extracellular cues is not fully characterized. My first goal was to establish an in vitro culture system for studying DC chemokinesis.
