This dissertation presents a multi-period, dynamic programming model of household choices on savings, consumption, having children and helping to fund children\u27s education. The interrelations among these decisions have implications for both household savings levels, the relationship between income and consumption, and the amount parents spend on education, which in turn can impact the amount of education children receive. Data from the National Longitudinal Survey young women cohort are used to estimate the parameters of the model.
