Recently, there has been an influx of women into the ordained ministry in Western non-Catholic churches. Many women who have served the church in lay capacities now seek ordination. They want leadership roles which offer legitimate authority and opportunities for decision making. This movement of women into the ordained ministry reflects wider changes in American society towards the status of women in the work force. In the Episcopal Church, where women have been ordained for fifteen years, many remain in entry level, low salaried or part-time positions.
