The purpose of this study is to determine the incidence and factors that influence back pain within the nursing profession. Back pain decreases work productivity and quality of life. Many factors influence back pain including: age, gender, smoking, poor body mechanics, stress, education level, nursing department, and long periods of standing. The design of the study is a quantitative correlational study. Sample size will be 500 nurses recruited from the Minnesota Nurses Association (MNA). The study method will be a two-part survey. Part one focuses on demographics and part two is a Likert Scale assessing perception of back pain. Data analysis will be performed using a statistical function within Microsoft Excel
