Research in the field of selective eating behaviors is growing, however there is no clear scientific definition of picky or selective eating. Knowledge of children’s food preferences and family eating environments may provide an understanding of the nutritional challenges encountered by picky eaters. Information about picky eating can also provide parental education to support increased acceptance of new foods and improve nutritional content of children’s dietary intake.
