Environmental Communication

Environmental communication is a study of how different mediums are used to discuss, create and solve environmental issues. While there are many global issues in environmental communication, there is a significant amount of communication at the community level. One of the biggest failures is how scientists and other experts communicate with non-expert, nontechnical stakeholders. This presentation discusses how environmental communication is constructed and how Caron and Rezaee’s rubric can be used to overcome barriers in environmental communication. The goal of this presentation is to help technical communicators improve environmental communication with community stakeholders. An example of buckthorn in New Ulm, Minnesota is discussed as an example of how environmental communication can be improved
