Diet-induced obesity and its related metabolic diseases including type 2 diabetes are public health concern. While the major function of white adipose tissue (WAT) is to store excess energy as fat, that of brown adipose tissue (BAT) is to dissipate extra energy as heat, suggesting that activating BAT function may be an effective therapy for treating obesity and its related metabolic diseases.
