Losses of fat free mass (FFM) and muscular strength are closely related, and they are commonly associated with aging process. These reductions must be some of the most important reasons for muscular strength in elderly people, which associated with functional impairment. These FFM losses and muscular strength reduction are denominated sarcopenia. Loss of strength is greater than losses of muscle mass with aging, although disease state and obesity must play a role in this sarcopenic syndrome.
