This paper proposes a revaluation of the critical consensus that societal fascination with zombies reflects collective concern regarding consumerism and conformity. This revaluation supposes instead that zombies speak to deep-seated anxieties about our unsustainable consumption of the natural environment. It is rooted in the philosophy of Deep Ecology formulated by philosopher Arne Naess in 1973 and offers a novel, environmentally conscious method of reading contemporary culture.Aurel Vlaicu University of Arad: http://www.uav.ro
