Abstract

Two rescue workers stand near the open back end of a Red Cross canteen truck take a break from rescue efforts for victims of the 1947 Texas City Disaster. Three Red Cross workers can be seen inside the vehicle which is stacked with cartons of food and drink and a mini-kitchen. A man stands outside the vehicle on the right side. Behind him, debris, railroad freight cars and the grain elevator are visible. On the far left in the background is a large cloud of dark smoke and metal debris
