According to the "1996 George Ranch Historical Park Interpreter Training Manual", Nancy Jones planted the oak tree in 1824. The tree house (partially visible near top of photo) with the spiral stairway leading to it, was built by the Georges for Mary Jones, daughter of Mamie's cousin Henry Jones.
