Jonathan Franzen is the author of five novels—The Twenty-Seventh City (1988), Strong Motion (1992), The Corrections (2001), Freedom (2010) and Purity (2015)—as well as of a memoir, The Discomfort Zone (2006). He regularly writes essays for The New Yorker and other magazines. To date, two collections of Franzen’s essays have been published—How to Be Alone (2002) and Farther Away (2012).
