L’article décrit quelques agglomérations du Centre-Est de la Gaule où les données archéologiques, littéraires, épigraphiques, numismatiques permettent d’appréhender l’évolution d’occupations remontant au Haut-Empire et l’apparition de nouveaux modèles au cours des ive-vie s. Il porte principalement sur les sites d’Alise-Sainte-Reine/Alesia, Chalon/Cabillonum, Mâcon/Matisco et Nuits-Saint-Georges pour ce qui concerne la cité des Éduens ; de Saint-More/Cora pour celle des Éduens, puis celle d’Auxerre ; de Vertault et Vix pour celle des Lingons.
