In this paper, an analytical procedure is developed for evaluating the filament loading, constrained elastic deformation, maximum stress, resultant force, required torque, and overall stiffness of a circular brush. Filament deformation is computed on the basis of a large deflection mechanics analysis in conjunction with kinematic constraints for a rigid workpart with various geometries and surface finishes. Numerical results are reported which examine the relationship among system geometric parameters, workpart penetration, filament loadings, stiffness property and workpart friction property
