This investigation was undertaken to investigate whether it is possible to predict if myocardium subjected to ischemic episodes would recover contractility over a short period of time by measuring the ischemic induced mechanical changes to the myocardium. Because post-ischemic, reperfused stunned myocardium is commonly detected in humans with coronary artery disease, this study could have implications regarding the treatment of those patients.
