KEY POINTS Research evaluating the effectiveness of group psychotherapy interventions with transgender and gender nonconforming (TGNC) clients has yet to be conducted. Counseling competencies, standards of care, and practice guidelines are available to assist mental health professionals working with TGNC clients within group settings. Mental health professionals should adopt an affirmative approach to the practice of group psychotherapy with TGNC clients. Integrating psychoeducation, affect regulation, cognitive coping, and problem-solving skills may be beneficial for TGNC clients receiving group psychotherapy
