The use of music as a therapeutic intervention has been documented throughout history. Nursing has recently recognized music as a valid and creative nursing strategy in a variety of clinical settings. This essay will focus on the use of music as a nursing intervention to decrease anxiety in the myocardial infarcted patient. It will include a review of literature pertinent to the therapeutic use of music and recommendations for implementing music as a nursing intervention in a coronary care unit
