Synthesis and Chemistry of the Substituted (TMM)Fe(CO)₃ Complexes

Trimethylenemethane has inspired people\u27s interest since it can be introduced into organic synthesis as the source of a four-carbon organic fragment. However, TMM is extremely short-lived and highly reactive, it has to be complexed with some organometallic ligands. Iron tricarbonyl was chosen at most times due to the facts that iron complexes are cheap and easily accessible, have good thermal and chemical stability, have relatively good selectivity and iron tricarbonylligands can be removed under mild conditios. Lots of research has been done about the fundamental structure analysis, preparation, reaction and decomplexation of the (TMM)Fe(C0)3 complexes, but almost no application of this (TMM)Fe(C0)3 complexes to the organic synthesis has been reported. The chemistry of the substituted (TMM)Fe(C0)3 complexes has been tested under different oxidative and reductive reaction conditions. Relatively satisfactory stability and reasonable yields have been obtained. And this shows the (TMM)Fe(C0)3 complexes have the potential to-be applied into the organic synthesis. Further probe to the chemistry of the (TMM)Fe(C0)3 complexes will be focus on the generation of a nucleophilic center on the substituents, and this nucleophile can attack the substituted termini intramolecular and give some useful organic compounds
