Considerable work has been done on the hydrogenation of castor oil with the aim of determining the physical and chemical constants of the resulting mixture. Applications of partly or completely hydrogenated castor oil to commercial use have also been numerous. However, the literature on the subject deals very lightly with the acids produced upon the saponification of the hydrogenated oil. It is the purpose in this work to investigate the various fatty acids produced upon the saponification of castor oil hydrogenated at a pressure of 115 pounds, at temperatures of 100 degrees c., 125 degrees c., 150 degrees c., and 175 degrees c., and for time intervals of 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 hours
