The analysis of the stresses involved in miling are of utmost importance and naturally enough are not completely understood. Many investigations have been carried out concerning the power requirements of a milling operation. In the past, most of these investigations aimed at finding the amount of cold work that was done by a certain type of cutter on a specimen were of the calorimetric type in which the beat generated by the milling section was converted into work. An investigation of the milled surface of the specimen showed no Visible change when the amount of cold work done on the surface was varied.
