This thesis consists of the development of a modified form of the Fermi-Thomas statistical atomic model which can be used to calculate the space distribution of (n,L)-type electron groups in an atom and also determine the potential energy of these electrons. The Fermi-Thomas model has been applied with many degrees of complexity ranging from a basic form that determines the number of s, p, d electrons as a function of atomic number to calculations that include corrections for exchange and correlation. The proposed model is intended to be complex enough to give results that compare favorably with experimental data, but it is still purposed to be simpler to apply than the self-consistent field method of solution of the schroedinger equation
