Mobile Intelligent Interruptions Management (MIIM): A Context Aware Unavailability System

In this thesis we design and analyze a system named MIIM (Mobile Intelligent Interruptions Management), created for the intelligent management of personal unavailability with regards to mobile devices. Specifically, mobile phones that currently cause inopportune interruptions by blindly allowing calls to ring at bad times and situations can be reprogrammed in light of advancements of mobile technology, ubiquitous computing, and context aware systems. We describe the problem and motivation of interruptions management and analysis. We show a solution application prototype, and corresponding analysis of requirements. The system utilizes a new mobile operating system, Android, a discussion of which is included. A true solution to interruptions by the mobile phone is possible with modern hardware and recent research in ubiquitous computing and context awareness. We present a discussion of context aware systems and ubiquitous computing, two fields that inspired the MIIM system
