This thesis examines how five major magazines- Better Homes and Gardens, National Geographic, Reader\u27s Digest, TIME, and Woman \u27s Day- translate their cover stories from print to the Web. A pattern analysis of 138 magazine cover stories from 20 different issues reveals that print stories are supplemented on the Web by 1) unique, 2) timely, 3) multimedia, and 4) interactive content. This study suggests that stories must change when told through different types of media and offers an updated version of Marshall McLuhan\u27s hot and cool media theory
