The film industry plays an important cultural and economic role in Australia. Feature film production in Australia is undergoing significant change with established filmmaking structures becoming less viable. From a tourism perspective, films can play an important role to host destinations, with promotion around a film resulting in interest from tourists to absorb themselves in the location in which a film was shot. Research into film tourism has increased in the past two decades but has focused on major box-office films.
