Induced potassium transport in the human erythrocyte was investigated. It is shown that transport induced by volume increase is chloride dependent. Furosemide experimentation confirms the effects of volume regulation are due to a cotransport mechanism. Propranolol studies confirm an additive effect when combined with volume change, revealing no interference. Activation by propranolol involves a phosphatase, thus rendering its activation effect similar to volume regulated activation. Charybdotoxin and TMO studies determine that propranolol only activates the co-transport mechanism
