This project investigates the existence of Decadent literature in American culture, specifically during the 1890\u27s. By defining Decadence, exploring European Decadence and the American little magazines and using Thomas Beer\u27s historical study, The Mauve Decade, as a basis for the literature movement, discussions of decadent elements in the works of Frank Norris and Stephen Crane are used to prove the existence of the sub-culture. In addition to the 1890\u27s movement, this project makes assumptions about the continued existence of Decadence in America
