Many genes are known to produce more than one form of mRNA by alternative splicing, in which exons are excluded from an mRNA transcript of a gene, thus altering the conformation of the protein. The dig-1 gene of the nematode Caenorhabditis elegans is involved in neuronal process guidance, and may undergo temporally mediated alternative spicing. Using RT-PCR analysis, two possible sites of alternative splicing were identified. Several RT-PCR products were cloned and sequenced to reveal the actual spicing patterns
