Alpine skiing has always been an inherently dangerous activity. The standardization of acceptable equipment has no doubt contributed to a decrease in the probability of injury during alpine skiing. ASTM F1063 specifies release torque tolerances that determine the acceptance of usable bindings. Surprisingly, no actual data to support the establishment of these tolerances has been well documented enough to be easily located. This study presents data on the variance of modern releasable bindings over a ski season. It is concluded from this data that the in-use tolerance of acceptable ski binding should be narrowed
