The objective of this IQP project is to study the effects of noise in and around ambulances and to understand their significance in order to eliminate their causes. The high levels of noise produced by the siren on an ambulance can lead to serious health effects to the heart and ears. The proposed solution, entitled SIRENO, is a noise-free system that performs the same functions as current ambulance sirens do. The SIRENO system encompasses unique communication technologies that enable drivers to see and recognize an approaching ambulance. Traffic lights and incoming vehicles can be monitored and controlled in the SIRENO system to give way to the ambulance.
