Civic organizations are the heart of the story of the social and political power and influence of Miami\u27s Cuban community. Few places in the United States have been transformed by immigration the way Miami has been transformed by Cuban exiles, and Cuban civic organizations help to explain why this is the case. This book addresses lessons to be learned about the nature of civic life from the experience of Cuban Miami. Drawing upon original ethnographic research, it looks into the cultural politics that leads to civic organizations success.
