The teacher\u27s use of humor in the high school classroom

Although the words within this paper may not all be humorous they set a framework to examine the use of teacher humor as a vital tool in creating a positive classroom learning environment. Observations focused on a variety of teachers in different disciplines within a new suburban high school. The method of research included observation of the teachers\u27 humor and the students\u27 reactions to the humor. The data was analyzed according to various research findings on classroom humor. Special attention was shown to the five most effective ways to present humor according to Neuliep and the thirteen reason to use humor in the classroom, this according to Neuliep and Cornett. In addition, each teacher after being observed completed a survey analyzing his/her use of humor in the classroom. Parts of their survey comments are cited in the analysis section.
