Gender bias in athletics is a relatively new phenomenon. Until recently, women did not compete in many sports. Title IX revolutionized athletics for women by threatening to take away federal funds from institutions that did not treat women equally on the field and off. Title IX was passed in 1972 and came into full effect in 1975. This paper explores the effects Title IX has twenty years after its inception. The paper is a study of a rural school located in one of Oregon\u27s remote timber communities. Through surveys, interviews, and observations, data was collected regarding the school\u27s compliance with Title IX.
