The cemetery of Kadruka KDK 1 was excavated by the French branch of the Sudanese Antiquities Organisation (directed by J. Reinold) between 1986 and 1989. The anthropological study of the necropolis focussed on 129 tombs, 95 of the Neolithic period, the burials revealed a selection of dominantly adult males and older adolescents, while during the Kerma period the division of the sexes and ages appears to have been more balanced. The death rate of the population was high from birth being about 20 years. The morphology provides information which complements the demographic data. A strong variability can be observed in the Neolithic period which shows that the cemetery could have been the burial place of a large community
