Whereas Swiss legislation is enacted in three official languages, judgments are usually passed in only one language, depending on the geographical origin of the case. However, uniform application of the law requires case law to be accessible for lawyers throughout the country. The dissemination of judgments despite language borders is provided by law journals devoting a large part of their activity to translation. This study focuses on the four major journals, and on the translation practices they developed in the second half of the 19th century and still follow today.
