BACKGROUND: The complex physiological abnormalities in chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) cannot be adequately described by standard laboratory tests of lung function. Advanced lung function measurements provide detailed insight into the pathophysiology of COPD and may complement standard lung function tests.
