Microwave photonic devices based on stimulated Brillouin scattering offer unique functionalities evidenced by recent demonstrations of broadband tunable microwave filters with the potential for developing flexible and compact solutions. So far the results presented have been limited by the relatively modest Brillouin gain, which limits the flexibility and functionality of these filters. In this thesis, I leverage the recent advances in optical chip fabrication, which have produced giant on-chip SBS gain as the basis of enhanced functionalities.
