A smart home energy management system has been used to reshape the electricity demand of the residential buildings widely. It normally requires understanding the capability of residential buildings’ thermal mass which revisits to the temperature flatirons and providing enough energy buffers. In this project, phase change material (PCM) was used as the virtual thermal energy storage. Basically, two parts were included: thermal modelling of residential building with PCM layer. Secondly thermal behaviour of models under different conditions (heating, ventilation and air conditioning system, fenestration, solar radiation) is discussed.
