Stressful working conditions have been linked to various health impairments in cross-sectional and longitudinal studies and chronic and long-lasting stress reactions are assumed to be particularly harmful to human health and well-being and even at least partially irreversible (e.g. “accumulation model” by Frese & Zapf, 1988).
