Geography, as an area of knowledge, takes part in the great challenge that is building an idea of space. In teaching Geography, the cartographic representation enables students to elaborate knowledge about the space where they and other social subjects live. This research mainly aims to present the experience of elaborating a Municipal School Atlas for Apucarana, a municipality within the state of Paraná in the South of Brazil. The Atlas highlights historic, geographic and environmental aspects and is based upon a participatory research. Teachers who worked on the municipal teaching system took part in the research, and to do so, a study group was formed by the researcher and primary school teachers from the municipality in order to develop...
